Learning Specialist/Instructional Assistant

We may have a place for you on our teaching team. Brightmont Academy is a private middle and high school dedicated to helping students become confident and successful learners. Due to rapid enrollment growth, our Birmingham campus is seeking an immediate part-time Instructor Assistant.

The right candidate will join our team of outstanding, passionate educators who believe in the teacher-student relationship and enjoys having variety in their workday. This essential team member guides students’ studies, upholds campus environment, substitutes in the classroom, and builds learning engagement with students.

The Brightmont campuses accept new enrollments year-round and have an immediate interest in hiring the right candidate for this position.

Responsibilities summary:

Student Care and Culture

  • Demonstrates awareness of student's background, skills, proficiency, interests, learning styles, and special needs in support higher learning practices
  • Conveys caring and respect in all interactions on campus, including greeting entering guests when administrative roles aren’t available
  • Demonstrate a commitment and respect, by offering students positive feedback, that promotes student confidence in learning and builds trust in learning skills
  • Maintains a productive environment for all students in Homework Studio to accomplish the individual goals assigned for each student equally

Instructional and Outcomes

  • Promote a positive approach to Homework Studio and to student engagement creating a safe learning environment of mutual respect, high expectations, and professionalism
  • Promotes student engagement by consistently demonstrating a passion for learning and for solving learning challenges
  • Applies Executive function and study tip knowledge and expertise in a wide area of subjects to achieving high academic outcomes for each student
  • Uses curriculum provided (APEX or Discovery) with all students unless prior approval received for particular circumstances
  • Effectively maintains MSP Records by recording activities of students in a consistent and timely manner
  • Manage campus pre-and post-assessment proctoring, scoring, recording, and reporting
  • Serve as the instructional facilitator for self-directed, independent courses
  • Substitute classroom instruction for instructors’ personal days’ off

Communication and Leadership

  • Flexible to provide temporary classroom instruction when an urgency arises
  • Collaborate students’ needs, goals, and daily outcomes with the campus director
  • Maintains confidentiality including student, staff and organization information on and off campus with students, parents, staff, and visitors
  • Proactively collaborates with colleagues, proactively sharing teaching resources, learning about student needs
  • Timely reporting of any concerns regarding student performance to lead teacher
  • Maintain supervision of student homework logs, agendas, and late assignments
  • Perform Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree, teaching certification preferred
  • Amazing flexibility and organizational skills
  • Ability to navigate Google Chrome apps and extensions  
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Available to work flexible hours including Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 6:00
  • Ability to commit long-term to build strong student relationships
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal laws
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
